Devotions: God's Provision

Bill works afternoon shift at the Munmorah mine. He says, “I had forgotten the time, talking about the bible with Christian friends and found I was very late for work. No time now for lunch and not even time to buy anything. I’m
notoriously late.
I have asked God’s help before but this was even worse. Embarrassed, I asked God to somehow provide for me again because I would have nothing to eat from breakfast until 11.20 pm

The journey to work was five minutes less than is normally possible and miraculously I was just in time to catch my ride underground.
I was saved by God! Lateness corrected. But by seven o’clock I was starving.
I felt the Lord was prompting me to speak to my work mate. He said ‘Sure come and eat.’ Mick had 4 pies, 6 slices of bread, salami and salad - then cake. Plenty for two and food left over. Like the loaves and fishes. God had done it again!”

Devotions: A Foundation

God’s Word is a Foundation for Life
Luke 6:46-49

So often we are like the foolish builder who acted on the convenience of the moment without worrying about the house foundations.
The main problem was not the storm which hit both houses but the foundations.
Base your lives on foundations of God’s Word.

Sunday School: God's Word

God’s Word is a Foundation for Life
Luke 6:46-49

Are we like the wise builder who built his house on a foundation laid upon rock?
When the storm came it could not be shaken.
Jesus likened this to basing our life on His word. Then as storms come into our lives we will remain strong.

Bible Study: Stop

Let’s heed the danger sign

Jesus said….
“You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures
or the power of God”.
Matthew 22:29

You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have
handed down.
Mark 7:13

Devotions:God’s Word Directs

God’s word within us is a guiding and teaching medium that is ever
reminding us and prompting us with God’s direction.

It happened for me when I was planning to move from Sydney to Newcastle as a single parent with the care of six children.
Discussing the move with my father-in-law, I said, “You must visit us when we move.” and he replied, “I will.”

Pleased, I commented, “You can live with us if you like.” and Pa immediately
responded, “I would like.”

Well, then arose the problem of buying a house for eight people with my limited finances.
It seemed too difficult so I planned to explain to Pa.
I knew he would understand
However, I kept recalling the scripture, He who puts his hand to the plough and turns back is not fit for the kingdom of God.
I knew God wanted me to share with Pa the house that I could afford.
So I announced my plan. We would do it; in spite of the squeeze.

Then…..Pa also made a decision.
He decided to sell his Sydney home and help with extending the new home.
And so he did.
By this, we were together and greatly blessed.

But first I had to heed God’s word and act on it.

Sunday School: Growing Up

Growing Up
All of us have a great potential for spiritual
development
Just as a son has the same potential for strength as his father.
He has just as many muscles in his body although at his age he may not be as strong.
The reason?
His muscles are not
fully developed while
he is still growing.
Yet he has all the physical components of a full grown man – bones,
muscles, organs etc.
How he develops depends on how he treats his body. He can
destroy it or nourish it.
God’s Word is spiritual food. Be nourished.

Devotions:God's Word Grows

The Sower is God
The seed - Word of God
The soil – peoples’ lives

Jesus explains:
God (sower) sows the message (seed) into our lives (soil).

On the Path Satan quickly devours it.
On Stony ground the plants with limited roots
wither and die.
So do we when we lack God’s resources Difficulties come and we are defeated.
Thorny soil chokes the life out of the plants similar to worries and desires for other things which chokes the word in our life.
Good soil receives the seed which brings fruit thirty, sixty or hundred fold.

We can be good soil and allow God’s word to make us people of faith and power.

This is valuable teaching for your Devotions, Bible Study and Sunday School classes.

Bible Study: Growing

The sower sows God’s message.
Some people are like the seeds that fall along the path: as soon as they hear the message,
Satan comes and takes it away
…..other people are like the seeds sown in good soil.
They hear the message, accept it and bear fruit:
some thirty,
some sixty
and some a hundred.

Bible Study: Praise

All that is in the heaven and in the earth is Yours…
Both riches and honour come from You and You reign over all
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
Now therefore our God we thank You and praise Your glorious name.

1 Chronicles 29: 10-13

Devotions:Seeking hope from faith in Christ

In the aftermath of the massacre at Columbine High School, Littleton,
U.S.A. a team of grief counsellors arrived to help the survivors deal with their anguish.
But most young people had turned to the church.
Patrick Simington joined his friends for a memorial service at the Light of the World Roman Catholic Church which had lost four young members.
Patrick’s mother told the Washington Times that what is really helping him get through this crisis “is his faith. “

Columbine student Lauren Johnson was encouraged by her parents to seek out a professional counsellor.
Instead she turned to the staff at West Bowles Community Church
telling reporters, “I just like it better this way.” She added, “It seemed like most of the kids from school were there.”

The action of the kids in Littleton is further proof that we can know no peace until we find it in Christ.

Bible Study: Benefits from Praise

Praise brings glory
2 Chronicles 5:13-14 When David’s priests were in unity of praise, thanksgiving and music the temple was filled with the cloud – they could not continue for the glory of God’s presence.

Praise repels heaviness
Isaiah 61:3 likens praise to a garment which repels and replaces the heavy spirit. When distressed be dressed with praise.
