Devotions: God's Spirit of Love

Share this example of love with your Sunday School, Kids club and Bible Study group.

“Wow! I never saw anything work like that in my life!” cried one of the girls.

“Before I got up this morning, I lay there and thought of my Mum like she is when she’s all happy, and I said, "Thank you God, because you love her and you’re making her like that now.’

And then I thought that way about my Dad, too.

And my Mum, she came up and kissed me and she smiled so nice I just stood there and looked at her!
And my Dad, he pulled out a dollar and said, ‘Here, go and have a good time, Kid’.”

I never saw anything like that in my life!

Pentecost
The Holy Spirit filled the disciples of Jesus as they prayed and gave them the ability to speak languages they didn’t know.

The visitors to the city heard the wonderful works of God in their own language and many joined them.

All this was 50 days after Jesus death.

Pentecost is a Greek word meaning 50.

They were celebrating the first Pentecost.

The first Pentecost happened on Mt Sinai where Moses prayed and received the 10 commandments. The picture is shown.

The first Pentecost was 50 days after they had put the lamb's blood on the doorposts in Egypt to protect the people from the angel of death.

Then they left Egypt.

Every year after that the people celebrated Pentecost.

So Jesus’ followers hurried to Jerusalem to wait and pray and on the day of Pentecost they got it!
There were 120 people together in the upstairs room.

Suddenly a sound of wind filled the house and what looked like flickering flames came and touched each person.

Their hearts were filled with joy.
The Holy Spirit filled them and gave them the ability to speak languages they didn’t know.
The visitors to the city heard the wonderful works of God in their own language and many joined them.

At last Jesus met them on a hill outside the city.

He spoke special words to them.

Then he was taken up to heaven in a cloud.

His friends were watching and two angels said,

“Jesus will come again, just as you saw him go.”
