They couldn’t believe it!

For forty days after Jesus died his friends kept seeing Him alive.

Once 500 people saw him at once

He ate a fish breakfast on the beach.

He even appeared in a room when the door was locked.

They wondered if their eyes were playing tricks but they knew it really was Jesus.

Jesus spent forty days showing his followers that he was really alive.

Jesus is really alive to be with kids today!

Bible Study: Prayer

Give your students the opportunity to pray this prayer in their Sunday School, Devotions or Bible Study group.

Do this to get God's forgiveness and help.
Jesus death on the cross paid for our sins so we don’t have to be punished.
If we accept His gift for us we can have a ‘sin free’ connection with God.

If you are ready you can pray this prayer.

Father God.
I am sorry for the wrong things that I do.

Help me to act and speak to please Jesus and be His friend.
Amen

Bible Study: The Cross

This is the most important truth for your students in the Kids Club, Sunday School or Devotional group.

On Friday morning on a hill called Calvary Jesus was nailed to a cross.

At noon darkness fell all over the land and lasted three hours.
The earth shook, rocks shattered and the curtain in the Temple was ripped in half.

Jesus called , “It is finished.” and he died.
The Roman soldiers on guard were afraid.
One said, “Surely, this man was the Son of God.”

On Sunday morning the cave where Jesus body was, …….was empty.
His friends were shocked and couldn’t believe it!
He kept appearing to them alive……...
They didn’t know that His dying was to pay the punishment for our sins. …………

Bible Study: Judas Betrays Jesus

This picture and message can be given to your Kids Club, Sundy School and devotions group.

Betraying Jesus with a kiss

One evening on the night of the Passover celebration Jesus was praying with his disciples.
They were in the garden of Gethsemane outside the city.

Jesus just knew that something awful was going to happen.
It was night time, after supper and He asked his friends to pray with him but they kept going to sleep.

Judas did a terrible thing.
He told the authorities where Jesus was and showed them which person was Jesus by kissing him in greeting.
Judas was paid 30 pieces of silver for betraying Jesus.

Bible Study: Boys Choose

Remind your young scholars in Sunday School, Devotions and Bible Study class that we all have the responsibility of choice.

God wants to be your Heavenly Father. Will you let him?

Jesus told a story of a father and his two boys.

Father asked the boys to do jobs on his farm.
One boy said “yes” and the other said , “I don’t feel like it.”

The father was sad but then he was surprised.

*The boy who said, “Yes.” didn’t do any work
*but his brother did his jobs after all.

Can you decide which boy the father was proud of?

Do you know which boy loved the father most?

God is like the father.
We are like his boys.

Which boy will you be like?

Remember He will help us if we obey him.

But all his money was no good now.
His boy was so sick he might soon die.
The only hope was to travel the roads and find Jesus.

When he found him Jesus said, “Go home your son will live.”
The father believed him and went home and amazingly the boy was well.
The fever left at the very hour the father was speaking to Jesus.

Sunday School: Healing Again

Evidence of God's working through a faithful follower of Jesus for your Bible Study, Kids Club and Sunday School students.

When Demos Shakarian grew up he started meetings for men so that they could tell one another about their ‘Jesus’ experiences.
It all happened at a special meeting in Jerusalem.
The building was crowded.
Everyone seemed to be there.

But there was no room for a little untidy man whose body was bent like a 7.
His eyes could only see the ground.

He came in from the street when he had heard Jesus was healing in the meetings.
He looked very messy.

In that crowded place God told Demos to pray for the man no one wanted.

As Demos knelt down, the little man rested his head on his cane and closed his eyes.
Tears trickled over gnarled knuckles and dropped onto the floor.
“In the name of Jesus Christ stand straight,” the prayer finished.

There was a snapping sound and a groan from the little man.
But the groan was not pain but release.
He lifted his head and back.
He struggled….. taller still.

A voice from the crowd called, “It’s a mee-racle!”

Walking at first, then skipping the little man called “I’m the one! I’m the one!

Sunday School: A Boy's True Story

Encourage your Sunday School, Youth Group and Kids Club with the true story of Demos Shakarian.
Demos wonders "Will I be a prophet like Efim? or will I be a healer?
God says, "All my people can do these things."

After the healing in his ears Demos at 14 years wondered if he would become a prophet like Efim but the years passed and one day a new happening made him think maybe he would be a healer.
Demos’s youngest sister Florence was six years old when she fell against a rough pipe in the barn and broke the bones in her elbow.

When the doctor had finished they said the elbow would remain bent and stiff – moving only the smallest bit.
That was the best they could expect.
Demos says, ‘One Sunday in church I felt again the sensation of the warm heavy blanket across my shoulders. I knew at once what to do:
I was to step across the room and pray for the healing of Florence’s arm.
While everyone was singing a hymn, I got quietly up from my seat and walked over to my little sister.

I leaned down to Florence her right arm encased in a huge plaster cast.
The warmth of the blanket spread down my arms and into my hands.
“Florence,” I whispered, “I’m going to pray for your elbow.”
Her large dark eyes watched me. I placed my hands on the cast.

I hardly prayed at all, but just stood there feeling the fire flood down my arms and hands into the plaster around Florence’s elbow.
“I feel that!” Florence whispered. “It feels hot.”

And that was all.

In a moment the sensation of the blanket left me and I returned to my seat.
I doubt if half a dozen people had noticed us.
A few weeks later the cast came off.

At dinner that evening Mother told us how the specialist had carefully tried to straighten the arm slowly and gently.
But Florences’ arm moved easily in wide circles from the elbow.

The doctor’s face broke into a wide smile.
“Well…!” he kept saying, “Well!
Better than I expected.

Much better! Why, it’s...it’s like an arm that was never broken!”

Bible Study: John Meets Jesus

Use this illustration with the message to your Sunday School, Bible Study and Devotions group.

John was known as John the Baptist
—he preached and baptized the people.

God told John that Jesus was the Saviour.
Jesus asked John to baptise Him.
“I should be baptised by You,” John said to Jesus.
“No,” Jesus answered. “This is the right thing to do.”

So John baptised Jesus in the Jordan River.
As Jesus came up out of he water, John saw God’s spirit came down to Jesus in the form of a dove and land on Him.
John heard God’s voice say “This is My beloved Son. I am very pleased with Him.”

Devotions: John Preaches

Remind the Sunday School, Kids Club and Bible Study group that John met his cousin Jesus while preaching by the Jordan River.

When Jesus and John were grown up they met one another when John was baptizing people in the Jordan River.
John was teaching people just like the angel had said all those years before.

He was saying, “Don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal and then he would baptize the people who wanted to change.
It showed that God had forgiven their sins.”

Some people thought John was God’s chosen Messiah; but John said, “No.”

He dressed in clothes made of camel’s hair and skins.
He ate dried locusts and wild honey.

Bible Study: Zacharias

Share with your Sunday School, Kids Club and Devotions group the extent of God's power.

Zacharias was punished when he failed to believe in God's power to give him a son.

Before Jesus was born an old priest named Zacharias was in the Temple serving God.

He suddenly saw an angel of the Lord standing by the altar and he was very afraid.

Don’t be afraid the angel told him. “I bring you good news.
Your wife will have a son named John.
He will lead many people to the Lord.”

Zacharias said he was too old.
The angel replied, “Because you have not believed me you will be unable to speak until my promise comes true.”
After that Zacharias had to write down everything instead of speaking.

When the baby boy was born they were going to give him his father’s name.
But Zacharias wrote, “His name is John.”

Straight away he could speak again and everyone praised God.

Be strong to ignore him

Help your Kids Club, Sunday School and Bible Study students understand his 'growing up' experiences.

Only boys went to school.
They would sit on the floor and learn to memorise large passages of the Old Testament (Bible).

If you travelled long distances you would probably walk.

Perhaps you would take the family donkey to carry your luggage or to give small children or tired people a rest.

Bible Study: Jesus the Student

Encourage your Bible Study, Kids Club and Sunday School students to see Jesus as a student learning and discussing with the temple teachers.

Was Jesus Really Lost?

When Jesus was twelve, He went with Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration.
They walked in a large group with friends and relatives from Nazareth to Jerusalem.

On the way home, the young people walked, laughed and sang together.
So a full day passed before Mary and Joseph discovered Jesus was not with the other boys.
They went back to Jerusalem.

On the third day they found Jesus in the Temple, talking with the wise men.
Mary was very upset.
"We have been looking for you for days.” she said.
“Why did you have to look everywhere for Me?” Jesus asked. “Didn’t you know I would be in My Father’s House?”

Jesus parents were happy to have found their boy but they thought about his words.
They could tell he was connecting to God.
Jesus grew into a young man loving and smart, and everyone who knew Him liked him very much.
Jesus took care of the family when Joseph died.

Devotions: Prayer Answer

Tell your Kids Club, Sunday School and Bible students of Demos' experience of an answer to church prayer.

The Missing Person.

Demos says,
The Sunday in 1926 when I was thirteen was funny in a nice way.
I remember clearly.
My whole body felt in some sort of special spiritual tune.

The little church hummed with excitement.

There was not a person who did not remember what had happened last week.
A lady had left Armenia two months before to join her daughter in America.
No one had heard of her since.

The church prayed and then one of the men strode towards the door.
For a long time he stood staring up the street as though seeing far horizons.
At last he spoke.
“Your mother is fine,
She will be in Los Angeles in three days.”

Three days later, the old lady arrived.

Devotions: A Boy Prays

Remind your Bible Study, Kids Club and Sunday School children that prayer is as real for kids as it is for grown ups.

Demos tells about the farm that his father Isaac bought after he settled in America.

Demos had jobs to do on the family farm but his favourite was to weed the corn because then he could go far in the fields and talk to the Lord out loud.

In his twelfth and thirteenth year the long aisles of corn seemed like a green cathedral, the leaves arching overhead.
He would lift his hands in the way the men did at church.
