Sunday School: More on Eric
This is an inspiring message to share with your Sunday School Bible Study and Kids Club.
Eric was an unusual sprinter.
He ran with his head tilted toward the skies,
his knees thrust upward to his chin.
He always shook hands with each competitor.
People were hoping he would do well in the Paris Olympics in France. The year was 1924.
It nearly didn’t happen because the heats for the 100 metres were on Sunday. He always put God first.
Eric said, “I’m not running.”
He went to church instead while the race was being run.
He was not so good in the longer distance sprints yet he finished third in the 200 metres taking bronze.
Then after he shook hands with everyone he went straight away for the heat of the 400 metres.
Surprisingly he won that race by 5 metres ahead of the silver medallist.
He had won gold and a world record 47.6 seconds.
Eric had also honoured God.
