Bible Study Curriculum: Naaman

Use this Old Testament message to teach the Bible Study and Sunday School children the value of obedience to God.

Naaman Gets His Miracle

There was a very important army captain who was embarrassed and ashamed.
He was afraid someone might see his skin. He tried to hide it under his clothes all the time.

He had an terrible skin disease called leprosy. Parts of his skin would get sores and then the skin would start to die. After a while dead parts would fall off (like the ends of fingers and toes).

Worse still—It was contagious and anyone who touched him might catch it too.

Naaman realised that if people found out he would have to leave his family and the army and live by himself.

One day a small girl in his house told him something and changed his whole life.

She told Naaman about the prophet Elisha so Naaman travelled to another country to meet him.
When Naaman reached Elisha’s home the prophet didn’t even come to the door.
He sent his servant to tell Naaman to wash in the Jordan River seven times.
Naaman was so insulted and angry.
“I won’t do it,” he said, “the river is muddy.”
Naaman’s servant said
“Why don’t you do this easy thing.
If it was hard to do, you would do it?”

So Naaman washed seven times and it happened. He was cured!
He was so grateful to God.
But he nearly missed out. Do you know why?
