“Here is a short cut,” said Christian.

The short cut was called By-Path meadow and it seemed easy.

But they lost their way and it became dark.

Weary and frightened they sat down and fell asleep.

Close by was Doubting Castle the giant’s home.

The grim and surly voice of Giant Despair wakened them.

“You are trespassing!” said the giant, towering above them.

He grabbed them, beat them cruelly and shut them up in his dark dungeon.
